Another legend of Polish origins: Baba Cmentarna

Welcome back to my blog dear friends, today we should grapple with a particularly macabre legend, the legend of Baba Cmentarna, which has the same Polish origins as that of Baba Grochowa we talked about a few days ago, but first a small preamble.

Legends related to the people of the Gnomes (de want and I must specify that they too are part of the legends) c. De given much importance to the afterlife and in particular they avoid burial, preferring cremation. But why do I tell you this? Because where there are often legends about the Gnomes there are other legends of other creatures, this time demonic that with the bodies of the dead seem to do something horrible.

The monster, or demon if you prefer, called Catherine Baba bears a really proper name since Baba in Polish means “old man” in a very derogatory sense and Cmentarna is literal “Cemetery”, so we talk about an old cemetery that not only, second legend, it is rather rare but has a rather macabre characteristic, that is feeds on human carcasses.

The demon that sometimes looks like a beautiful woman and other times, devoid of the magic that shows it pleasant, those of an old bony and with rotting flesh, lives in cemeteries and feeds waiting for the carcasses to be sufficiently rotting to then suck up the liquids and eat the meat and, above all, lick the marrow with its long tongue. But it does not end here, because if you do not find what you need in cemeteries you would get the meal by killing unaware passers by waiting for the meat to be dropped at the right point. I’m sure you now understand why gnomes prefer cremation 😉
