The legend of the Norwegian goddess Odin’s wife: Frigg

Welcome back to my blog, even today we’re going to analyze a very interesting legend that comes directly from the Norwegian mythology, the beautiful wife of Odin known as Frigg.

In northern mythology Frigg is one of the most loved deities associated with marriage and motherhood, as well as with love and fertility. Its main feature seems to be the ability to know the fate of every human being but also the sad reputation of not disclosing his knowledge to anyone.

Legends are not always truculent and scary, this is an example in this sense since the name of Frigg literally translated means “love”, placing it clearly in an extremely positive light. And if all this is not enough to know that in ancient times the friday was dedicated to this deity and therefore to the celebration of marriages that were in this way blessed directly by the benevolent deity, which obviously changed over the centuries after the advent of modern religions that place the most suitable days for this purpose on Saturday or Sunday.

One of the things that makes this legend really interesting is the fact that the name “frignare” derives from its name, since this goddess was often described in tears.
