Sardinia is rich in mythology and legends of various kinds and this is certainly noteworthy, we are talking about the Demon of deception called “Su Ingannadore” or “Meschinganna”.

According to tradition this being would have the power to transform its appearance to resemble to an animal and also to stay in multiple places at the same time, relying on the gift of ubiquity. In truth it is not a bad being but only a prankster since he would enjoy teasing the unsuspecting ones that meet him.

The oldest culture of the island is clearly linked to the agro-pastoral life and it is therefore not strange that living in the countryside and the object of his jokes are shepherds, farmers and people passing by. It is said that it is kept well away from inhabited centers or churches, since the symbols of Christianity such as crosses, cemeteries and the like would prevent them from entering.

It is said that one of his favorite jokes is pretending to be a beautiful girl to make fun of men, but that he often shows his ugly appearance similar to those of a goat, making poor victims jump in place, in short, nothing evil but surely spiteful 😉
