Tutto inizia nella fattoria Shinn di Mena negli anni ’60, al tempo la casa ospitava Ed Shinn, 72 anni, sua moglie Birdie, 70 anni e loro nipote, Charles Shaeffer, di 15 anni.
I Shinn erano vissuti nella fattoria sita in Ransom Road per più di 15 anni ed in quel periodo era stato un posto abbastanza tranquillo fino al 2 dicembre 1961, data in cui iniziarono a verificarsi strani fatti…
All’inizio le finestre iniziarono a sbattere violentemente in assenza di vento o correnti d’aria e nel cuore della notte qualcosa batteva con violenza sulle pareti svegliando la famiglia. In seguito il fenomeno ebbe un aumento di intensità e i mobili della casa iniziarono a volare come se fossero lanciati in aria da una forza invisibile… Va detto che di tutto questo si seppe molto dopo dal momento che i padroni di casa tenevano la cosa segreta per evitare di diventare lo zimbello del paese. Ma nonostante i tentativi di insabbiamento la notizia arrivò ai compaesani che iniziarono a perseguitare la famiglia nella speranza di assistere ai fenomeni paranormali trasformando i coniugi Shinn in un fenomeno da baraccone. Solo anni dopo questi tristi eventi il nipote Charles confessò di essere responsabile involontario dei fenomeni paranormali avendo compreso che i fenomeni si verificavano sempre quando lui aveva certi stati d’animo…
